Happy New Year ! The most anticipated shows in 2017 (for now and for me) in London (English version)

I really want to thank you for taking the time of reading me and commenting my posts.

I wish you a very happy new year made of tiny and big blissful moments and a stack of laughs !

Here is a small selection of shows in London that I can’t wait to see in 2017, even if I’m not sure I will be able to attend all these performances.

And what are the shows you may already have seen or would like to see ?

Au Barbican :

Richard III, William Shakespeare directed by Thomas Ostermeier (one of my favorite directors !)

Thomas Ostermeier’s week-end lab : I will take part of this workshop ! I can’t believe how lucky I am !

Roman Tragedies, adaptation of Shakespeare’s roman tragedies directed by Ivo Van Hove, the setting looks incredible. After  Kings of War in april at the Barbican, I’m so excited to see it (even if it was in Avignon years ago !)

Obsession, adapted from the L. Visconti’s film, directed bt Ivo Van Hove with Jude Law and a talk by Jude Law on the 27th of april.

After the rehearsal/Persona adapted from the I. Bergmar’s films, directed by Ivo Van Hove (when I was telling you that is a whole Ivo Van Hove Season‘s !)

The Tempest, William Shakespeare par la RSC the lighting design looks amazing !

The Young Vic

A midsummer’s night’s dream, W. Shakespeare, directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins

See me now, created by Mimi Poskitt, Molly Taylor and the company, a play about and played by London Sex Workers. The young Vic’s description speaks for itself : « A daring new show created and performed by sex workers.

Instructions for Safety in the Sex Workplace
1. Don’t give out your real name
2. Always carry protection
3. Get the money first

London sex workers share their painful, touching and often hilarious stories.
Male, female and transgender, they are teachers, cleaners and parents. Behind closed doors they’re also paid to make their clients feel good – in all sorts of ways. Some do it for the money, some for love, some for unexpected reasons…

Lyric Hammersmith

City of glass, adapted from Paul Auster’s novel, directed by Duncan Macmillan

« This bold, technically ground-breaking production uses stagecraft, projection, magic and illusion to immerse audiences in the dizzying, disorientating and ultimately transcendental story that helped establish Auster’s reputation as ‘one of America’s greatest living novelists’  » (The Guardian)

Union Chapel :

Call me god : the final speech, written and directed by Michael Sturminger and staring John Malkovich. I can’t wait to see it because it’s John Malkovich standing alone on stage with only the Union Chapel’s organist for company.

« From Nero to Idi Amin, despots .have had megalomaniac delusions of divine provenance. Michael Sturminger’s music-theatre piece pits Malkovich against the grandiloquent power of the organ. Organist Martin Haselböck responds with music by Bach, Messiaen and Ligeti: words against music, genius versus delusion, and at its terrifying heart, an actor who spares no-one – least of all himself. » Union chapel’s website.

Royal Opera House :

Written on Skin : why it looks like an exciting show ? It’s directed by Katie Mitchell and it’s an Martin Crimp’s opera !
